Silver Hand Meadery began with a passion for bees, honey, and the ancient craft of meadmaking. Founder Glenn Lavender, inspired during his years touring with the Juno award-winning band Downhere, developed a fascination with mead through historical fiction and beekeeping. In 2014, after relocating from Ontario, Canada to Williamsburg, Virginia, Glenn and his wife Sherri entered some of their early meads into the prestigious Mazer Cup competition. Already exploring the idea of starting a meadery, winning a medal there bolstered their confidence. In 2015, they opened Silver Hand Meadery, transforming a former doctor’s office into a warm, inviting space for mead lovers.
Their mission is simple: to create exceptional meads and unique experiences so that their guests can savor what is good together. Over the past decade, Glenn and Sherri, along with a talented team of creators, makers, educators, and supporters, have blended curiosity, craftsmanship, and dedication to produce meads that celebrate the diverse flavors of honey and foster connection among family, friends, and community.
Today, Silver Hand Meadery continues to honor tradition while embracing innovation, offering unforgettable flavors and experiences—ten years in the making and still evolving.
